		A nurse practitioner is a registered nurse with a graduate degree in nursing who is trained for clinical practice.  Nurse practitioners maintain their own panel of patients.  Patients schedule appointments with a nurse practitioner in the same way they do with a physician.  Nurse practitioners evaluate, diagnose and treat, including writing their own prescriptions.  They consult with a physician when they encounter a problem they cannot resolve.  The end result of this extensive training and teamwork is a truly comprehensive health care team where the patients are the winners.
